Which stream should you pick?
Your Class 11 stream shapes what you can study at college. Here is what each one covers and where it typically leads.
PCM: Physics, Chemistry, Maths
Goes to engineering, architecture and technology careers. Required for JEE (IIT, NIT) and most B.Tech programmes.
Engineering (all branches)
Architecture (B.Arch)
Computer Science
Defence (NDA)
PCB: Physics, Chemistry, Biology
Required for NEET and medical careers. Also works for pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy and life sciences.
MBBS, BDS, B.Pharm
B.Sc Nursing, Physiotherapy
Biotechnology
Environmental Science
PCMB: all four science subjects
Keeps both engineering and medical options open until Class 12 results. The workload is heavier. Choose this only if you are genuinely undecided between PCM and PCB paths.
Science with Computer Science
PCM with CS replacing Biology. Strongly suited for software engineering, AI, data science and cybersecurity. Most schools offer this combination alongside standard PCM.

The stronger option for finance, accounting and economics. Maths is required for CA Foundation, B.Com Hons at top universities and most BBA programmes.

Arts subjects as electives
Fine Arts, Music or Theatre Studies as elective subjects can combine with Humanities for careers in design education, performing arts, cultural studies and media production. Available at select schools.
Polytechnic Diploma
3-year diploma programmes after Class 10 in engineering trades (Civil, Mechanical, Electronics, CS, etc.). Leads to direct employment or lateral entry into B.Tech (2nd year) at many institutions.
ITI: Industrial Training Institutes
1 to 2 year skill-focused training in trades like electrician, plumber, fitter, welder, computer operator and COPA. Nationally recognised certification. Strong demand in manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.
CBSE Skill subjects (Class 11 and 12)
